Weather interrupts seabed sampling
Unfavourable weather conditions have caused the temporary suspension of seabed sampling in Smith Bay. Having mobilised the “Andrew Wilson” to Smith Bay to start the sampling yesterday, KIPT’s contractor Maritime Constructions, has advised that no sampling has taken place, because of rough seas.
Weather forecasts had indicated 2-3 days of possible work this week but new forecasts preclude any work before Monday. The “Andrew Wilson” will return to Port Adelaide today and be re-mobilised on Sunday.
Seabed soil sampling is a crucial piece of work to complete the Environmental Impact Statement for the wharf development.
This work is necessary in order to finalise the wharf design, and to ensure that it can be built and operated with no negative effect on environmental water quality.
