There are 12 independent plantation tree growers on Kangaroo Island – six hardwood and six softwood. The six hardwood growers leased their land to Great Southern, which planted bluegums on the properties in 2007-8. Those growers have received no lease payments for several years. KIPT is liaising with all of the independent growers on the best way for them to realise the value of their plantations. A meting was held in November last year at Western Districts Sports Club. A further meeting was held in May,2017. and discussions continue.
